A: UTS PhotoSoc is more than just a society. We are a live and vivid community of welcoming individuals and aspiring photographers. We run outings, workshops, competitions, exhibitions, photo critique services and pizza nights. We also run an event jobs photography service for when our members wish to earn some rewards for shooting under our brand.
A: Memberships costs $10 per calendar year.

A: No, all our activities are completely optional. However, the more events you attend the better value for your money!
A: ActivateUTS guidelines prohibit giving away memberships for free. Also, we need some form of revenue to pay for marketing, discounted day trips, hiring premisses, purchasing gear, pizza parties, bar tabs and other things that we offer for free to our members. We are a non-for-profit organisation, all our excess funds just get put back into the society.
A: No, all PhotoSoc executives are volunteering their time and services.
A: While we mainly focus on digital photography, we do offer a some film workshops and have a couple of film experts on the team.
A: Unfortunately, we do not have any access to the UTS dark rooms. This is only reserved for current UTS students studying photography classes.
A: That is absolutely fine. Ironically, no one on the PhotoSoc executive team actually studies a photography related class at UTS.
A: Definitely! We welcome anyone to sign up to our society, so long as you pay your membership fee.
A: Our members shoot with a wide range of cameras, from the latest and most advanced DSLRs, to your basic point-and-shoot or smartphone. We allow anyone to join, and we also provide free workshops to members in order to improve their photography skills. You don’t even need a camera to join our community.
A: Absolutely! We welcome photographers of any skill level and provide workshops to improve your skills.
A: We always try to schedule our activities in a way that maximises the number of potential attendees. Unfortunately, we cannot adhere to everyone’s schedule. However we do take any feedback very seriously.
A: We love you too! Everyone has a chance to become a part of the executive team. However, you will have to wait for the annual general meeting (AGM) which happens around October each year, and you must file your executive application at a reasonable time before the AGM. You must also meet the following:

  • Hold a valid membership with UTS PhotoSoc
  • Promise to commit your time and effort to UTS PhotoSoc for one full year
  • Have reasonable experience in the field you intend to apply for
  • Possess good teamwork and charisma skills
  • Be successfully elected at the AGM by the current members of our society
